Learning objectives

  • Recognise warning signs in messages, distinguish genuine from false information and know whom to contact when in doubt.

Suggested activities

  1. Read the SMS and receipt (fictional examples). Mark what seems suspicious.
  2. Compare with a genuine message from the employer. What are the differences?
  3. Role play: politely explain to the customer that the payment must be checked, and notify a manager.

Reflection questions

  • Why does urgency work so well in scams?
  • What would you do if you were unsure and alone at work?
